About St. Croix
St. Croix is the largest of the islands in the US and British Virgin Islands group of islands that lie just southeast of Puerto Rico. It is rich in history, culture and the traditions that represent the seven flags (Spanish, English, Dutch, French, Knights of Malta, Danish, American) that have flown over the island.
St. Croix is approximately 87 square miles in size, about 22 miles long and 7 miles wide at its widest. It is also the easternmost point in the United States Western Hemisphere (Point Udall on the east end of the island) and is the only island in the Lesser Antilles chain to be wholely within the Caribbean Sea.
Rich in an agricultural history, St. Croix is still today a laid-back island. When you visit our island, don't expect to find the hustle and bustle of a large city You will however find many things to occupy your time. Great beaches, snorkeling and scuba diving in some of the finest waters in the Caribbean. Hiking, cycling, triathlons (five to be exact), golf (2 eighteen hole courses and one nine hole course, plus two more in planning stages), art galleries, live community theaters, dance companies, historical museums, botanical garden, tropical forest, fine dining, and so much more await you.
In addition to St. Croix being the Caribbean's Tri Island, it is also the home of Tim Duncan and other MBA players, several major and minor league baseball players, and other international sports stars. The residents of St. Croix are making a major commitment to developing sports tourism as one of our tourism products, along with heritage tourism. Come check out our year-long cycling and Pace Runners road running events, swimming events, soccer matches, baseball & softball, basketball, and volleyball, as well as the five triathlons and golf opportunities. Artists & musicians are always welcome at our cultural events. Jazz musicians have the opportunity to be part of two monthly events - Jazz Vespers on the first Sunday of the month and Sunset Jazz on the third Friday of the month held on the historic Frederiksted waterfront.
